There are hundreds of Bluetooth wireless speakers and the vast amount to choose from can make one’s head spin. There are very few like the one I am going to review: the ASWY One Sky. It’s a wireless speaker with a large subwoofer and it floats! Yeah it freaking levitates and it’s awesome.
The Ondo Sky is a two piece wireless speaker system. The first part of the wireless speaker combo is the part that levitates which functions like other wireless speakers you’re used to. It has a built-in battery to play wire free (12 hours playback), with a power button, play/pause, +/- buttons for volume and track control. The buttons are touch sensitive meaning you don’t need to actually press them down in order to activate them.
The wireless speaker portion is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and it also has a magnet built inside of it. That magnet is what keeps it floating above the subwoofer portion that is powered with a typical electrical plug. One of the coolest features of the Ondo Sky is the wireless charging. When the speaker levitates over the base, it charges like certain Android smartphones with Qi wireless charging. If you do take the wireless portion of the speaker with you on a trip, there is a traditional microUSB input for charging too so you don’t need to bring along the subwoofer.
The built-in magnet also serves as a mechanism to stick to objects with metal like a refrigerator or stainless countertop. Since the magnet is strong enough to keep it afloat, there’s no chance of it sliding off the refrigerator door even if you were to slam it closed. It feels like the magnet can hold over 10 pounds of weight when I try to remove it from the refrigerator door. Simply put, it is a powerful magnet.
Since the speaker levitates, it creates a room filling 360 degree sound profile with the main driver firing upward and the subwoofer firing downward.
If you lift off the levitating portion and set it down it creates a stereo like effect giving you even more sound. When paired and playing at the same time, the combo sounds loud, detailed, and balanced. The Ondo Sky provides a wonderful listening experience but is one of the coolest accessories I have ever reviewed. The speaker stays afloat even when it is off and spins in a circular motion 24/7 based on Earth’s movement.
The microphone actually works quite well and I attribute the quality to the fact of the speaker not touching anything. I’ve taken several calls that have lasted over an hour and never experienced a single issue.
Combine all of the features – ability to use it wire free, wired with a subwoofer, and the fact that it levitates – and this is one heck of an accessory. No matter how you listen to the Ondo Sky, it sounds great. It’s a tad pricey at $269.00, but given the features, sound signature and coolness factor, there are very speakers that are a better value in this price range.
