I’ve always been opposed to the phablet movement. Not because I don’t think big screens are useful. I love the extra real estate on a device that you are constantly looking at. I just have embarrassingly small hands. The last phone that fit comfortably in one hand was the miniature iPhone 4. I’ve paid the price with my larger iPhone 6S, where I have a huge crack from dropping my phone. I’ve had the pleasure of using Ungrip for the past couple of weeks and it is an absolute necessity for people who have smaller hands.
How does it work?
Ungrip is about as simple as it gets. Ungrip uses a soft polyester fabric that wraps around your finger to provide a secure grip for your smartphone. Ungrip uses a strong 3M VHB adhesive, which is just technical jargon for “very strong adhesive”. Ungrip comes in an array of different colors and designs from pastel pink to wood mustache.
Ungrip is able to attach to most flat, non-porous surfaces. It will not attach to rubber, soft-touch silicone, TPU, fabric, and anything with waterproof coating. I had no problem sticking Ungrip to the aluminum body of my iPhone 6S. The fabric is easily detached from the raised bumper with a simple pull of the snap mechanism underneath the strap.
Ungrip recommends people with smaller hands to place the adhesive closer to the bottom of your phone. People with bigger hands are recommended to place it in the center of the phone. At the end of the day, it’s really up to you to figure out what location is most comfortable for you. The adhesive takes strong hold only after an extended period of time so you can play around with different locations.
Will it prevent me from dropping my phone?
Absolutely yes. The biggest sell for me was that I don’t have to have consciously have a vice-like grip to prevent my phone from slipping out of my hands. I simply keep my middle finger wrapped around the fabric and I can loosely hold my phone with confidence that it will not slip. The bumper provides an area for my fingers to grab on to for additional comfort and stability.
The most important factor to consider is how secure the adhesive is to the phone. I can confidently say that this adhesive will not detach from your phone unless you want it to. I am not the most responsible with my phone and constantly found myself twirling my phone around my finger. I would carry my phone by the polyester fabric and I could tell that the adhesive was attached very strongly to my phone.
I haven’t tried to take my Ungrip off yet because I like it so much. The ironic thing is that I am more worried about how difficult it will be to take Ungrip off my phone. I previously had a silicone case on my phone, which I had to take off because the adhesive did not stick to the case. I actually love using my iPhone without a case, which I’ve never done before because I was scared I would destroy my phone with a single drop. The past couple of weeks using Ungrip has been a game changer because now I can feel comfortable knowing my phone isn’t going to slip out of my hand.
My only pet peeve is the thickness of the bumper. It is a bit too thick for my taste and leads to an awkward position when my phone is resting on a table. However, this is a minor sacrifice for me to make for the safety of my phone.
Overall
I freaking love my Ungrip. It is an extremely affordable way to protect your $500+ smartphone. It is only $9.99 for solid colors, $11.99 for patterns, and $15.99 for the specials collection. You can stick Ungrip on your tablet and have the same effectiveness. I know lots of restaurants who use iPads to take orders that can benefit from using a product like this. If you’re a member of the small hand group, please do yourself a favor and try out this awesome product from Ungrip. For more information, visit the official Ungrip site!
