How to activate Spam Protection (Smart Call) on the Samsung Galaxy S8

Spam, robocallers or spoof callers to your smartphone are at an all time high. The FCC knows how bad the problem is and can’t do much about it. The FCC even levied a massive fine of $120M against a scammer from Miami and yet the calls still haven’t stopped. The scammers do whatever they can do get your voice and information on those spam calls. It has essentially has us ignoring phone call unless we actually know who is calling through our contacts and caller ID.

With spam calls at an all time high, Samsung has stepped up and included a feature aimed to help identify those annoying callers. The feature is called Smart Call and it’s free to use on your Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. All you have to do is turn it on. I’ve been using it and can tell you it works. You should activate it too as it might prevent someone from scamming you or a loved one.

Here’s how to turn on Smart Call on your Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

  1. Go to ‘Caller ID and spam protection’ in Call Settings.
  2. Turn on ‘Caller ID and spam protection’.

Once the feature is turned on, it will automatically start detecting fraudulent or spam callers immediately. It’s that simple. Once a number has been identified on your phone, it will give you the option of blocking it forever so they don’t ever bother you again.

If you don’t want to use this feature after activating it, simply turn it off and your phone will revert back to normal. Smart Call uses the hiya database of spam callers. It doesn’t identify all spoof calls, but it has a huge database and is quite popular. If you don’t own a Galaxy device, you can install the Hiya app on your Android or iOS device by clicking the links below.

  2. I too do not have this option on my Samsung Galaxy S8 plus. Even when I search the phone I do not have caller ID and spam in here I search the word spam I search the word caller ID. Why does this article include S8 plus if this is not the case for this phone? I need help

    • You have to open your dialer (phone app) then click on the 3 dots to open menu and then click on settings and there you see “Caller ID and spam protection”.
Simply turn it on and your done.

  3. This feature is very helpful. What would be even better is if you could assign a specific ring tone to say for spam calls ( a siren for example). There doesnt appear to be any way of doing this…. am i wrong?

    • Or even a way to have no alert? I love this feature, and I don’t ever answer when it’s a scam, telemarketer, or whatever. So why bother to even show it to me?

  4. What is the website that means it is easy to understand podcasts and blog sites? I don’t get an iPod, does that make any difference? . gffeeedebcfdfeee
