Texas is going through uncharted territory with the current disaster of Hurricane Harvey. At time of writing, Houston has already seen over 40 inches of rain and things aren’t looking to slow down until next week. It’s a mess in Texas and as a country we need to band together to support our fellow brethren in Texas. In times of distress is when we are truly tested, so let’s put out our best and put aside the little things you want in favor of doing something good for those suffering from Harvey.
Luckily technology makes it easy and quick to send a donation over text (SMS) message.
Here are four legitimate charities and their texting codes.
Carter BloodCare covers hospitals in north, central and east Texas. To donate, call 877-571-1000 or text DONATE4LIFE to 444-999.
The United Way of Greater Houston flood relief fund will be used to help with immediate needs as well as long-term services like minor home repair. Visit their website to donate or text UWFLOOD to 41444.
The American Red Cross is accepting donations on its website. You can also text HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10.
Donations to the Salvation Army can be made online, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769) or texting STORM to 51555.
By texting you donate through your phone carrier and will be charged accordingly. If you want alternative ways to donate, you can simply call the numbers listed above and donate using a debit or credit card.
If you’re looking for other organizations that provide help, here’s a few more options.
The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund of Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, which is administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.
Houston Food Bank and the Food Bank of Corpus Christi are asking for donations.
To help animals suffering from the disaster, visit the Houston Humane Society or the San Antonio Humane Society.
