It’s easy to forget how destructive weather can be. Hurricane Harvey made landfall on August 25th as a Category 4 hurricane causing more than $70 billion dollars in damages. My best friend had to evacuate his home near Corpus Christi and lost everything in his room when his roof blew away. One good thing did come out of the hurricane: people uniting together to help those in need. A prime example is NFL player, J.J. Watt, who used his superstar status to help raise 27 million dollars in Hurricane Harvey relief. I find it incredibly admirable when influential people use their celebrity status as a platform raise awareness and help those in need.
In a cruel twist of fate, Hurricane Irma formed right behind Hurricane Harvey and is already a Category 5 hurricane. With sustained winds of 185 MPH, the powerful hurricane is projected to hit South Florida on Sunday. Luckily, Comcast is looking to help Florida residents by opening up over 137,000 free XFINITY Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the state, regardless of if you are a XFINITY customer. The ability to communicate with loved ones and emergency personnel is absolutely vital during times like these. For a list of XFINITY hotspots, click here.
Connecting to a XFINITY Wi-Fi hotspot is easy. If you’re in the vicinity of a hotspot, you’ll find the “xfinitywifi” network name. Your browser will launch with instructions on how to sign if you are a XFINITY customer. If you are a non-XFINITY customer, there will be a separate section on the sign-in page to get started. Non-XFINITY customers will be able to renew their session every two hours through September 15th, 2017.
Props to Comcast for contributing to the greater good by making their Wi-Fi hotspot free for everyone during these trying times.
