Admittedly, I’m not the kind of tech geek who likes to root or beta test on my devices. I like stable and functional software that doesn’t have annoying bugs to ruin my experience. However, last week I decided to give iOS 11 a run on my iPad 12.9″ Pro and absolutely love it. Registering for Apple’s beta software program and installing iOS 11 was an absolute breeze. It took a matter of minutes to complete the process and about 20 minutes to download and install the complete package. After that, I noticed that my iPad ran significantly smoother, had improved battery life, and brought the cool new dock to my homescreen. In all honesty, you shouldn’t wait for the official release. It’s that good.
Here’s how to install iOS 11 on your iPhone, iPad or iPad Pro
Make sure you follow this process using Safari. A third-party browser like Chrome won’t function properly and will not allow you to do the upgrade.
- Sign up to take part the in the Apple Beta Software program by signing in with your iTunes account
- Download and install the Profile configuration file and run it
- After you have made the install, your device will restart. Open the Settings app and go to General > Software Update. Tap the Download and Install button if the beta doesn’t automatically begin installing.
- After the download is complete, tap Install Now.
Once installed the device will restart and you will be able to take full advantage of iOS 11. It’s pretty awesome and will give you a preview of what will be running on the next iPhone. Apple recommends you do a complete backup of your device before the upgrade, however, I went ahead with the upgrade without the backup. The backup all depends on how much information is important to you on your device. If you’re like me and keep everything in the cloud, you can always get your stuff back with a fresh install.
