Whether you have a word for it or not, Snapchat is introducing you to augmented reality by making your Bitmoji 3D and life-like. Snapchat’s newest feature has been rolling out since Sept. 14 to both iOS and Android. As a side note, it’s good to know they are making this feature available to Android unlike some of their previous new features (shout to some of our DeTeched readers who commented on my previous Snapchat article letting me know the feature was only available for iOS!).
First things first, update your Snapchat app, make sure you have a Bitmoji, and connect it to your Snapchat account. If you don’t have a Bitmoji yet, simply download the Bitmoji app and check our article walking you through creating one.
Once that’s done, go to your Snapchat settings, go to Bitmoji and connect it. Now it’s time to get started!
How do you see your augmented 3D Bitmoji?
Step 1: Press and hold down on your screen with your camera facing outwards
Hint: not a selfie. You’ll see some filters come up that have icons on it like a disco ball, a butterfly, coffee mug, etc.
Step 2: Choose a filter and see your Bitmoji in the real world!
In my example, I selected the coffee mug and my Bitmoji appeared next to my dog on our walk. You have the option of tapping + holding down on your Bitmoji to move it and place it somewhere else on your screen if you want to.
As you move through the world, your Bitmoji will stay in it’s place on your screen. I walked to the spot that mine was at and looked at myself. Interestingly, Bitmojis seem to be about 2 ft tall!
And that’s it!
See your Bitmoji in 3D and play with some augmented reality in two simple steps. What do you think about this new feature? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
