If you own a Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ or Note 8, you know just how great their cameras are. If you own a Note 8, you might think it’s the best camera you’ve ever used in a smartphone. Both of the larger phones, the S8+ and Note 8, are a bit harder to control one-handed mainly due to their larger sizes. If you find yourself struggling to hold your Galaxy while trying to snap a picture (especially with selfies), there’s a little feature built into the Camera app to help you out. The Samsung Galaxy smartphones have the ability to accept voice commands to take pictures once your camera app is open. It’s a feature that’s buried in the Settings, but once activated, it might make taking pictures a lot easier for you.
Here’s how to activate Voice Commands on the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8
- Open the Camera App
- Click on the Settings button at the top right of your display
- Scroll down and click on the toggle of Voice control
- If you are using Voice Wake-Up for Bixby, you will need to turn this feature off to take advantage of Voice controls for your camera. (see below for instructions on disabling this feature)
- To take pictures using your voice, simply give the command: Cheese, Camera, Smile or Shoot. If you want to record video using your voice, simply state “Record Video.”
How to disable Bixby Voice Wake-Up
- Open the Bixby panel by clicking on the Bixby button or swiping right from the homescreen
- Click on the three dots menu at the top right of the display
- Click Settings
- Scroll down and click on Voice Wake-up
- Click the toggle to off
Pretty simple right? Voice commands for controlling your camera app are especially useful when taking selfies. They’re also great for portrait mode when you want to get a group shot but don’t have anyone to take a picture for you. We hope you’re enjoying your Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ or Note 8 as much as we are!
