It seems that just about every major website wants to bombard us with video content loaded with ads these days. While I appreciate the need for ads, I enjoy reading on my computer for a reason – it’s quiet and I simply want to read a story. The last thing I want when clicking through pages are videos popping up with noisy ads that interrupt my quiet time. If you’re a user of Safari on macOS, Apple has your back with a way to stop those annoying videos from auto-playing.
By the way, have you installed macOS High Sierra yet? If you haven’t make sure to go to the App Store and upgrade your computer because it makes it a heck of a lot faster and safer.
Anyways, let’s stop those annoying videos from auto-playing.
How to stop videos from auto-playing in Safari
- Open Safari
- Scroll your pointer over the Safari tab at the top left of your screen and click on Preferences
- Click on the Websites tab in the Preferences Window
- On the left click on the Auto-Play tab
- On the bottom right-click Never Auto-Play
All websites will no longer auto-play videos and blast you with annoying ads any longer. If you do happen to want a specific site to auto-play videos, simply open up that website and follow steps 1-3 again and the website you have open will pop-up with an option to give it its own set of rules.
