I just upgraded to an iPhone 8 Plus and I don’t think I can go back to a smaller size phone. The extra screen real estate is absolutely necessary when I’m sucked into the blackhole that is Instagram Explore. All jokes aside, the phablet experience has been mostly positive. There are only two things that suck about having such a big phone. The first is fitting into my pocket. I like to think my jeans aren’t too tight, but you can clearly see the imprint of my iPhone 8 Plus through my jeans. The other reason is texting with one hand. My hands are smaller, which was limiting my texting to using two hands. I recently discovered the one hand keyboard feature on iOS 11, which makes it much easier to type with one hand. Here is a short tutorial on how to turn it on.
How to enable one handed keyboard
- Locate the Globe icon located at the bottom left of the keyboard.
- Long press the Globe icon.
- You’ll see three keyboard icons, with the regular keyboard option highlighted. If you’re typing right-handed tap the right keyboard icon and if you’re left-handed tap the left keyboard icon.
- To exit out of the one handed keyboard feature, just tap the arrow to revert back to the regular keyboard.
The iPhone one handed keyboard is about the size of the keyboard for the iPhone SE. This might take some time getting used to especially if you have pudgy, sausage fingers. Remember this feature is only available on iOS 11. Try it out and tell us what you think!
