A measly 8% of New Year’s resolutions make it to the end of the year. That means those good intentions you had for making yourself better are abandoned because you couldn’t stay the course. With 2018 just around the corner, you should prepare yourself to succeed when it comes to your resolutions, especially if they mean getting fit, financially sound, learning a new skill or language, quitting smoking or drinking less alcohol.
If these categories fit into your New Year’s resolutions, then do yourself a favor and increase your odds of success by downloading these apps for iOS or Android devices.
Lifesum
Lifesum is my personal nutrition and activity tracker. It has a beautiful interface and is extremely easy to use. It’s good practice to keep track of your daily habits – you’re going to slip up from time to time, but as long as you stay on track a majority of the time, you’ll be sure to improve your health. Lifesum manages to find a good balance of tips and tricks without pushing you too far. One of the biggest pitfalls to losing weight is eating too much, and studies have proven people think they eat less than they really do. Lifesum is a great app for keeping track of exactly how many calories you’re consuming so you can ensure you stay on the path to success.
Smoke Free
Without question, the best thing you can do for yourself is to quit smoking, that is if you’re a smoker. Countless studies have shown the horrible effects of smoking on your health, and there’s no bigger source of improvement for your health than quitting smoking. Tobacco companies know their products are addictive and that’s the main reason you can’t quit even if you want to. You can do yourself a favor and download Smoke Free onto your iOS or Android device. It will keep track of how long you’ve been smoke-free, show you the money you’ve saved by not smoking, show you how your health is improving and just makes it a little easier to curb your habit. It’s free to use and might be one of the most valuable apps you can have on your phone for 2018.
Mint
If getting control of your finances is on your New Year’s Resolution list, you need Mint. It’s a free app for Android and iOS devices that keep track of all your finances in one location. Mint brings your bank accounts, credit cards, bills, and investments so you know exactly where you stand. It’s a great place to see how much you’re saving, spending and when to pay bills. You can even keep track of your credit score and no credit card is required to use this app.
Memrise
If learning a new language is on your list for 2018, download Memrise now. It’s one of the most awarded language apps in both the Play Store and App Store for its easy to use and easy to learn interface. I reviewed Memrise this year and it has certainly helped me learn Korean. It’s free to try, you risk nothing, so you can see for yourself just how easy Memrise makes language learning. 2018 is the year you learn a new language.
Sober Grid
Addictions are poorly understood by the scientific community and alcoholism is one we scientists wish we could help with. It not only wreaks havoc on your body, but it hurts the ones you love most too. Sober Grid is an app available for both Android and iOS devices that connect you to sober people nearby and around the world. This offers a 24/7 support community for when you need it most. You can send private messages, post messages, photos and videos to a community, save sober buddies and use the sobriety calculator to keep track of how many days you’ve achieved. Sometimes having a community of people who understand your needs most is what you need instead of that drink. Give it a try.
