In our last tutorial, we showed you how to backup your iOS device using iTunes or iCloud. You may now be wondering how to actually restore your iOS device from a backup. You’ll need to do this anytime you get a new iPhone or iPad. I recently upgraded my iPhone 6 to an iPhone 8 Plus and using the backup saved me a ton of time that normally goes into configuring your phone manually. Here’s a tutorial on how to restore your iOS device from a backup.
How to restore your iPhone or iPad from a backup
iCloud Method:
- Turn on your iOS device. If you’ve already set up your device, you’ll need to erase all of its contents before you proceed.
- Follow onscreen directions until you get to Apps & Data.
- Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi.
- Tap Restore from iCloud Backup.
- Sign into iCloud with your Apple ID.
- Choose a backup, iCloud or iTunes. After you choose, the transfer will start.
- When asked, sign into Apple ID to restore apps and purchases.
- Make sure you stay connected to Wi-Fi until the process is complete.
iTunes Method:
- Open iTunes on your Mac or PC that was used to backup your device.
- Connect device using a USB cable.
- Select your iPhone or iPad when it appears on iTunes.
- Select Restore Backup in iTunes on your iPhone or iPad.
- Click Restore in iTunes and wait for the process to complete.
- If you have an encrypted backup, you will need to enter your password.
- Keep iPhone or iPad connected after it restarts and wait for it to sync with your computer. You can now disconnect.
Getting a new iPhone or iPad is an exciting time that doesn’t have to be ruined by manually downloading content onto your new device. iOS offers two methods of backup through iCloud or iTunes making it a breeze to get all your apps and important documents to your new phone.
