My dad’s computer is pretty old now so I decided to give him my 9.7-inch iPad Pro to use instead. All he uses his computer for is surfing the web and watching YouTube videos, which the iPad is perfect for. My dad is a Samsung guy and has never owned an Apple product. The first question he asked me was “how do I type in Korean?”. I figured I’d write a tutorial on how to add another language to your iOS keyboard because there are many people out there where English is not their primary language. Here’s how.
How to add another language to your iOS keyboard
- Tap Settings
- Scroll down and tap General
- Scroll down and tap Keyboard
- Tap Keyboards
- Tap Add New Keyboard
- Select the language you want to add
You can now access the selected language anytime you type something. If you want to get rid of a keyboard, all you have to do is tap Edit under your list of keyboards and delete the keyboard you don’t need anymore.
How to switch keyboards
Now that you’ve added the language you want, you’ll have to select the new keyboard you want to use.
- While the keyboard is open, tap and hold the globe icon located on the bottom left
- Select the keyboard you want to switch to
It’s as simple as that. Anytime you need to type anything, you can easily switch between different keyboards to type a combination of different languages. If you’re having a hard time remembering how to switch keyboards, just think of the icon you tap to send an emoji. Everyone knows how to type out emojis.
I’m first-generation which means my parents immigrated here from Korea. My parents are usually more comfortable typing out in their primary language. I know there are a lot of people out there where English isn’t their primary language and aren’t tech savvy enough to figure out how to add a new language. I hope this tutorial falls into your hands.
