These fingerprint and app enabled locks from Tapplock move the padlock to the 21st century

If you’ve gone to school or to a gym at some point in your life there’s a good chance you’ve used a combination or padlock before. I’ve used padlocks for school lockers, gym lockers, storage lockers, bicycles and gates throughout my life. Padlocks usually work the best for me since I don’t need to remember a combination, but the downside is they come with a tiny key that’s super easy to lose. Padlocks, while great for the convenience of never losing a small key, are terrible if you are forgetful and are much easier to break into than a traditional padlock. Portable locks haven’t really made much headway with advancement in tech, until now. At CES, Tapplock introduced two new locks that are finally current with all the great technology these days.

The Tapplock one (plus) is an upgraded model of the original Tapplock one that adds enhanced water-resistance to help keep it functioning through rain or storms. It now comes with an IP67 water-resistance rating when it’s locked or unlocked. If you don’t know what IP67 means, we don’t blame you. It is a standard that the locks exceeded where they can survive completely immersed in 1M of water for up to 30 minutes.

While the first generation Tapplock offered water-resistance, it only did so when it was locked. Any lock that is vulnerable to damage isn’t necessarily one you’d want to use in all situations. As you all know, every generation of products comes with enhancements, and the new Tapplock one (plus) is the one that can truly replace all traditional padlocks.

The second new lock, the Tapplock lite, is a smaller version with all the same features.

What are those awesome features of the new Tapplocks?

All smart locks from Tapplock are capable of reading fingerprints to unlock them within 0.8 seconds. Both new locks can also store up to 500 fingerprints, meaning multiple users with multiple fingers can access the same lock. The original owner of the lock can also track who has accessed the lock with the accompanying mobile app and even grant guest users temporary access using that same app.

The one (plus) is capable of lasting through 3,000 unlocks on a single charge for two hours. And for those of you who are a little paranoid about the lock losing power, you can check the remaining power in the app.

Both locks definitely are a huge upgrade over combination and key locks and make it a lot easier to keep your valuables safe.

Unfortunately, both locks don’t have pricing available yet, but they will be released this spring. To be the first to know, head on over to www.tapplock.com.
