Smartphones are becoming more of a necessity rather than a luxury. While its possible to live life without a smartphone, it isn’t ideal. Smartphones are the gateway to communicate with the outside world and our primary access to the Internet. I consume most of my entertainment whether its Netflix or YouTube with my smartphone. The most annoying thing about using my iPhone 8 Plus to watch videos is holding it up for extended periods of time. I don’t know how many times I’ve accidentally dropped my iPhone on my face while I’m laying down watching Netflix. Luckily, I got my hands on a Grip Flip, a phone accessory that will help you get a better “Grip” on your phone.
What’s a GripFlip?
A GripFlip is a smartphone accessory that attaches to the back of any phone or tablet to help you get a better grip. The optimal way to attach the GripFlip is to place it at the very bottom of the phone right in the center. For larger tablets, you can attach two GripFlips which will let you hold your tablet with either hand. A multi-function handle that resembles brass knuckles pops out so your fingers can slip into the handle to provide a better grip on your phone. This allows the GripFlip to add only a minimal amount of bulk because you can pop the handle back in place when you are done using it.
The handle doubles as a kickstand so you can watch your TV shows with ease. The greatest advantage of the GripFlip that isn’t available on other popular accessories such as the Pop Socket is that you can prop your phone up in portrait mode. I’ll have PDFs that I’ll read on my phone and I love that I can just prop my phone in portrait mode and read hands-free.
Impressions
I have small hands which makes large phones hard to use with one hand. Using my iPhone 8 Plus with one hand is pretty much out of the question. I would drop and shatter my phone within a week. The evolution of phones getting bigger is why accessories like the Pop Socket or Ungrip are so popular. The GripFlip is another inexpensive option. Like I mentioned above, the GripFlip adds the additional functionality of portrait mode kickstand.
The GripFlip is completely made of plastic which doesn’t add too much weight to the entire phone. The GripFlip does not come with a replacement adhesive so if it loses its stickiness you’re going to have to buy another one. It uses a double-sided adhesive which will stick to any surface other than a silicone case. The adhesive loses its stickiness pretty quickly if you keep taking it off the phone so I would recommend leaving the GripFlip on unless you have a new one as a backup.
The GripFlip isn’t as easy to access compared to the Pop Socket but the grip seems more secure due to the four finger design. I found myself shifting my fingers down so that I only had three fingers in the slots. This was the most comfortable fit for me where I could still access the home button on the iPhone 8 Plus and have a solid grip. Using all four fingers made it difficult for my smaller hand to reach the home button. The finger holes comfortably fit which is saying a lot because I have chubby fingers.
The GripFlip is not a great option for smartphones with the finger unlock on the back of the phone. The footprint of the adhesive takes up a large portion of the back of the phone. It partially covers the fingerprint reader on my roommate’s Pixel which makes it unusable. If you have an iPhone, you’re good to go.
The GripFlip also comes with various stickers that you can attach to the accessory to give your phone a unique look.
Overall
If you’ve got small hands, you should check out the GripFlip. It’ll give you a better grip on your phone or tablet. The unique folding mechanism allows you to use the finger hold as a mount for your phone. You can view your favorite shows in landscape or even portrait mode. You can find this cool accessory at GripFlip.com, Walmart, or Amazon for $9.95. Click here to find more information about GripFlip.
