It’s crazy to think how people got directions before smartphones existed. It wasn’t too long ago that handheld GPS devices like Garmin were the revolutionary standard to navigation. Even my dad uses his Samsung Galaxy to give him directions instead of using our outdated Garmin. There are additional advantages to using your smartphone besides getting directions. Suppose you’re waiting for your friend to pick you up from a restaurant. Rather than looking up the address of the restaurant, copying the address, and messaging it over, Apple makes it really easy to send your location straight from iMessage. Here’s how.
How to send your location in iMessage
- Open iMessages
- Start an iMessage with the contact you want to send your location to
- Type “I’m at” and a “Current Location” tab will pop up
- Tap on “Current Location” and it will send you a pin on your location
You can tap on the location to open it up in Apple Maps and tap the heart to Favorite the location.
Alternative ways to send your location
Send location by going through Contacts
- Open Contacts
- Tap on the contact you wish to send your location to
- Tap Share My Location
- Choose between Share for One Hour, Share Until End of Day, or Share Indefinitely
Send location from Maps
- Open Maps
- Force touch the blue circle
- Tap Send My Location
There are a plethora of ways to send your location to your friends or family. Sometimes you don’t even need to send anyone your location. I used to always lose my car anytime I parked on the street. These days, I always drop a pin on my location no matter if I park on the street or in a garage. If you are still rocking a Garmin navigation system, it’s probably time to upgrade your tech.
