Poor call quality on your iPhone? Try resetting your network settings.

Hear me now? The tagline from Verizon’s once popular commercials touting its service is a solid “NO” for me on the AT&T Wireless network. I pay for unlimited data, and while that service is great, my call quality has been in the dumps as of late. My daily driver has been an Apple iPhone X for a couple of months now and it’s been nothing short of incredible. However, taking calls has been a pain mostly because call quality has been so bad that every fourth or fifth word out of the other person’s mouth drops out of the call. Apparently, I’m not the only one with this issue as several friends and colleagues of mine have asked me about this issue lately too. After doing some research I have discovered that the call quality issue can be resolved with a simple resetting of the network connection between my iPhone and AT&T. My issue is specific to AT&T, but if you’re on Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile or other providers, this fix applies to you as well. I reset my connection two weeks ago and can confirm all is good with call quality now.

Here’s how to reset your network settings on your iPhone

  1. Open Settings
  2. Click on General
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and select Reset (don’t worry, this won’t reset your phone)
  4. Next click on Reset Network Settings

Once you reset your network settings your phone will immediately reset its connection to your cellular network. It will also reset all of your WiFi connections so make sure you have your WiFi passwords ready as you will need to enter them in again.
